Hotel

Hotel was a romantic drama executive produced by Aaron Spelling that ran for five seasons begginning in 1983. It starred “James Brolin as Peter McDermott and Connie Sellecca as Christine Francis who have been hired to run the elegant St. Gregory Hotel in San Francisco. Both of them become deeply involved in the constant intrigue and exploits of the very rich and famous who frequent the St. Gregory for all of the right and wrong reasons.”

Elizabeth guest starred on the premiere episode of the show’s second season as Katherine Cole, an aging actress ensconced in the St. Gregory’s Royal Suite “who, in the absence of film work, agreed to appear in a local play.” Katherine and Elizabeth share several similarities, including detesting being called a legend and a wistfulness for normality. The stage role she’s preparing for is that of a strong-willed Southern woman in a play authored by an unnamed Southern playwright—something else Elizabeth knew a thing or two about.

Hotel reunited Elizabeth onscreen with her dear friend Roddy McDowall for the first time since Cleopatra more than twenty years earlier. Roddy appears as Katherine’s long-suffering assistant, Tony. Katherine’s return to the stage is thrown into jeopardy when she fires Tony—and begins to realize what she’s lost.
