Murphy Brown

On her penultimate guest appearance for “Taylor Made Monday,” Elizabeth stops by the newsmagazine show FYI to film an appeal for the safe return of her pearls. Elizabeth’s willingness to poke fun at herself was on display throughout her four CBS appearances, especially in this exchange between her and old friend Murphy Brown, FYI’s star reporter.

Murphy: Oh, gosh, I don’t think we’ve seen each other since that dinner party you and your husband gave.
‍Elizabeth: Oh, really, which one?
‍Murphy: Um, I think it was a few years ago.
‍Elizabeth: No. Which husband?

Elizabeth reminds Murphy that, incidentally, she couldn’t keep her eyes off her now missing pearls at that dinner party. “Say, what are you driving at, Cleopatra?” Elizabeth, who takes a telephone call in Murphy’s office, learns that police have a lead on her missing pearls. She must leave immediately and reschedule her segment for FYI, but not before confronting Murphy about an item she comes across in her office. “I found this silver bell that disappeared during that dinner party, that you so loudly accused Roddy McDowall of stealing.”
